We are updating on the current situation in Vietnam, quarantine regulations, reopening scenarios, and our travel advice for travelers who are interested in traveling to Vietnam this year or in 2021.

Updated on September 18, 2020

  • Vietnam opens its borders for Vietnamese nationals, diplomats, experts, managers, skilled workers, investors, and their families. The borders still remain closed to international tourists until further notice.
  • From September 18, flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to destinations in South Korea, Japan, China, and Taiwan are resumed. Connections with Cambodia and Laos will resume next week. To board a flight, the traveler must have a negative Coronavirus test certificate (the test must be conducted within three days before the departure date). Passengers would be tested upon arrival via the RT-PRC method and kept in quarantine if required.
  • All travelers coming to Vietnam are required to submit a health declaration upon arrival. Travelers can fill out the declaration at the airport or submit it in advance at the link: https://tokhaiyte.vn
  • Travelers must install Bluezone, a Vietnamese Bluetooth-based app that helps determine if a person has come into close contact with a Covid-19 patient.
  • Since September 03, 2020, there have been no new community transmissions.

Even though Vietnam has not opened for tourism yet, these updates show a positive sign for the country to slowly open its borders for international travelers.

  • Vietnam’s borders still remain closed to international tourists until further notice.
  • All travelers coming to Vietnam are required to submit a health declaration upon arrival. Travelers can fill out the declaration at the airport or submit it in advance at the link: https://tokhaiyte.vn
  • All travelers are subject to medical screening and a mandatory quarantine of 14 days, except for foreign experts, investors, managers, and diplomats on short business trips of less than 14 days. However, they must have international medical insurance or guarantee that the hosting company will pay if there are COVID-19 treatment costs; and a COVID-19 test taken by Real-time PCR technique, between 3 to 7 days before arrival in a laboratory approved by the Vietnamese government or under the laboratory system of the WHO.
  • Services in Danang / Hoi An are back to normal after more than 45 days of lockdown.
  • Vietnam officially resumes commercial flights to 6 Asian destinations, including Guangzhou, Seoul, Tokyo, Taipei, and Cambodia and Laos from September 15, 2020. The authority has proposed setting up a travel bubble within South East Asia. The idea is to permit a slight reopening of borders to allow for international tourism within the region to tourist hotspots which are considered safe from Covid-19.
