ANCIENT ANGKOR (CCT03)

This itinerary includes a comprehensive tour of the Angkor Temple Complex and surrounding temples such as Banteay Srei, plus a wonderful exploration of the largest lake in South East Asia; Tonle Sap Lake.

Day 1 SIEM REAP – ANGKOR TEMPLES (L)
  Arrive at Siem Reap airport and be welcomed by your tour guide. Transfer to hotel for check in. In the afternoon, depart for Angkor Wat. Built during the reign of King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century, Angkor Wat is the best-preserved temple in the entire complex and has remained a significant religious center since its foundation. Constructed in the classical style of Khmer architecture, it has become a symbol of Cambodia even appearing on the national flag. Return to Siem Reap and visit a local handicraft center on the way. Overnight in SiemReap.

Day 2 SIEM REAP-ANGKOR TEMPLES (B-L)
  After breakfast, visit the twin temples of Thommanon and Chau Say Tevoda (early 12th century). Then explore the unfinished mountain-temple of Ta Keo, the Srah Srang holy pond, Bantey Kdei and finally visit Ta Phrom temple, founded by King Jayavarman VII as a Mahayana Buddhist monastery. Ta Phrom has been left in much the same condition in which it was re-discovered in the mid-19th century with ancient trees growing out of the ruins in the surrounding jungle. In the afternoon, visit Angkor Thom, the last capital of the Khmer Empire under the reign of Jayavarman VII. Enter the area through the impressive ancient South Gate carved out of stone and see the four giant faces of the Bayon Temple in its centre. This 12th century masterpiece is a study in grandeur and is well known for its 54 towers with enigmatic faces representing the 54 provinces of the Great Khmer Empire. Continue on to the Terrace Of Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King. Overnight in Siem Reap.

Day 3 SIEM REAP - BANTEAY SREI- KBAL SPEAN (B-L)
  After breakfast, drive to the North of the Angkor area and visit the temple of Banteay Srei carved in beautiful pink sandstone. It is also called The Citadel of Women and is one of the best preserved temples in Cambodia. In the afternoon, drive to Kbal Spean, a carved riverbed set deep in the jungle to the northeast of Angkor – it is commonly known as "The River of a Thousand Lingas". Take a walk through the forest to the river and see the amazing series of sandstone formations carved in the river bed. Overnight in SiemReap.

Day 4 SIEM REAP-ANGKOR TEMPLES-TONLE SAP (B-L)
  After breakfast, depart for the Roluos group of temples, the oldest of all Angkorian temples including the temples of Lolei, Preah Ko and the pyramid of Bakong which is the first of the great pyramid mountains. Explore the town of Roluos and visit the local market, unchanged by tourism. Board a sampan and journey down the Roulos river to Kompong Phluck, a floating village on Tonle Sap lake. Enjoy a picturesque cruise along the lake and see the village houses on stilts, flooded forests and learn about daily life of the local community. Return to Siem Reap at the end of the afternoon. Overnight in Siem Reap.

Day 5 SIEM REAP (B)
  After breakfast, take a Tuk Tuk for a short ride to visit the National Museum. Relax before transferring to the airport for the departing flight.
