VIETNAM EASTERN MOUNTAIN DISCOVERY (VMN14)

In the morning, pick up at the hotel and drive to Ba Be Lake via Thai Nguyen and its tea plantations. Stop on the way to have lunch at a local restaurant.

Arrive in Ba Be National Park in the early afternoon, check into a Home Stay in Pac Ngoi village and enjoy lunch prepared by your host.

In the afternoon, explore the natural scenic beauty and learn about the Tay ethnic community who have lived here for generations. After some time engaging with the local people on the trek return to your homestay and enjoy a relaxing break followed by a delicious dinner with your host family.

Day 1

HANOI –BABE (HOME STAY) (L – D)

In the morning, pick up at the hotel and drive to Ba Be Lake via Thai Nguyen and its tea plantations. Stop on the way to have lunch at a local restaurant.

Day 2

BA BE – BOATING & TREKKING (B – L – D)

After breakfast, take a small boat and enjoy a cruise on one of the most beautiful lakes in Vietnam – Ba Be Lake. Surrounded by limestone mountains, witness fishermen going about their daily life and farmers working in the fields around the lake. Continue the cruise along the Nang River and stop at a lovely waterfall for lunch in a nearby restaurant. Enjoy a refreshing swim if the weather permits. After lunch head off for some light trekking through the neighboring villages and see how Ba Be plays an important role in the life of the people living beside the lake. Relax and enjoy the wonderfully peaceful environment and then transfer back to your homestay.

Day 3

BA BE – BAO LAC (B – L – D)

After breakfast, spend a bit more time enjoying the area around the lake before departing for Bao Lac. It takes around 5 house to reach Bao Lac. The route itself is quite a sight even there could be hard shifting along the mountainous lanes. On the way, stop at a local village / market (if time permits) and arrive at Bao Lac in the afternoon. Check in to your hotel and relax.

Day 4

BAO LAC – MEO VAC – DONG VAN (B – L – D)

After breakfast, depart for Dong Van, on the way visit Meo Vac. It takes around 2 hours to reach Meo Vac from Bao Lac with several lovely stops and photo opportunities along the way. Marvel at the epic mountain scenery and cascading rice terraces as you traverse Colia Pass, and the many different villages including Zao Tien, and San Chay Village. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant along the way. Climb the steep mountain roads leading to Meo Vac. In this remote region many communities have not changed their way of life for centuries. Stop at Ma Pi Leng Pass, famous for its breathtaking landscapes and magnificent valleys. Enjoy the panoramic view and wonder at the houses of the Hmong people built on limestone rocks. Upon arrival in Dong Van, amble through the ancient streets of this peaceful town. Check into your hotel and spend the rest of the day at your leisure, or exploring the town.

Day 5

DONG VAN – QUAN BA (B – L – D)

After breakfast, visit a local market in Dong Van. On the weekend, you can explore an authentic mountain market where all sorts of products including traditional clothing and textiles are sold.

Leave Dong Van for Quan Ba and visit the Hmong King’s Palace built by Vuong Duc Chinh. The Vuong family ruled over this region and controlled all opium production and trade until 1945.

Continue the journey passing over the Yen Minh Pass comprising a series of beautiful valleys and lush rice terraces. The terraced fields are green from May to early October and golden yellow from October to early November. Stop and take time for a scenic, rural walk. Upon arrival in Quan Ba, check into your homestay and relax. Enjoy dinner with your host and have a good night’s rest in these very peaceful surroundings.

Day 6

QUAN BA – HOANG SU PHI (B – L – D)

After breakfast, go for a leisurely bike ride through the local villages. The stilt houses and rice paddies provide a beautiful backdrop to the rural bicycle paths. Enjoy spontaneous encounters with local people and visit some local communities which can be accessed only by bike. Return to your homestay, bid farewell to your host and depart for Hoang Su Phi.

Hoang Su Phi has a wonderful charm, and is also home to the most impressive terraced paddy fields in Vietnam. Take in every breath as you stand in the midst of this vast magnificent landscape. Upon arrival in Hoang Su Phi, check into your homestay and relax.

Day 7

HOANG SU PHI – BAC HA (B – L)

After breakfast, depart for Bac Ha near the Chinese border towards Lao Cai. En route, make some stops at the local villages of the Hmong, Tay and Nung ethnic communities and pass by Coc Ly. Continue on to Hoang A Tuong castle before reaching Bac Ha in the late afternoon. Check into your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure, or walking around the nearby area.

Day 8

BAC HA – SAPA (B – L)

After breakfast, visit the local ethnic markets where you will see representatives from different hill tribes, colorfully dressed, selling handicrafts and local produce. Markets are held on different days depending on the region.

In the afternoon, go for a short walk to a local village nearby and learn more about the daily life of the hill tribe communities as well as their living environment. Drive to Sapa and arrive in the late afternoon.

Day 9

SAPA – HANOI (B)

After breakfast, time at your leisure to explore the surrounding areas by bike. Transfer back to Hanoi in the early afternoon.

Reach Ha Noi in the late afternoon.
